Conventional vs. Synthetic Lubricants
Conventional lubricants are refined from crude oil. Crude oil contains millions of different kinds of molecules. Many are similar in weight but dissimilar in structure.
By refining, crude oil is separated by weight, not by structure. Grouping molecules of similar weight and dissimilar structure together, refined lubricants contain a wide assortment of molecules.
However, not all of these molecules are good for lubrication. Some of the molecules found in refined lubricants are detrimental to the lubricated system or to the lubricant itself.
Synthetic lubricants are chemically engineered to form pure lubricants. Synthetic lubricants contain no contaminants or molecules that "don't pull their own weight." Because synthetics contain only smooth lubricating molecules, with no contaniments or irregular ingredients, they are far superior.- .

Plain Old Oil Products...
also know as P-O-O-P?
It has been a misconception for years that engine oil should be changed every 3000 miles, even though most auto manufacturers now recommend oil changes at 5,000, 7,000, or even 10,000 mile intervals under normal driving conditions. (Check your owners manual)

Synthetic motor oil, coupled with better engines mean longer spans between oil changes without harming an engine. The 3000 mile interval is a carryover from days when engines used single-grade, non-detergent oils.
